Muslim scholar cases put off as magistrate absent
THE Muslim scholar, Imam Nizam Ali, of ‘D’ Field Sophia, Greater Georgetown, who is charged with engaging in sexual activities with boys under the age of 12 years, made yet another court appearance yesterday. But his cases were put off after being called, due to absence of Magistrate Alex Moore from Sparendaam Court, East Coast Demerara.
Ali was instructed to return to court on June 8.
The last time he appeared, on May 11, he was faced with two additional charges, making a total of nine, for sexually molesting the children.
For his other appearance, on May 24, he was accompanied by his mother and defence counsel, Vic Puran.
However, yesterday, only his mother was with him.
Ali is on $200,000 bail and the virtual complainants are all in the custody of the Child Care and Protection Agency.
