SIGNATURE Productions, headed by Lyndon ‘Jumbie’ Jones will stage its third annual edition of the comedy show, titled ‘Uncensored III’, on Saturday, June 2 and Sunday, June 3, at the National Cultural Centre (NCC). Since its debut about two years ago, the presentation has been a much anticipated event, attracting overwhelming public support.

Producers claim it has broken box office records at the NCC, by being the first for which tickets were sold out days in advance.
The first night of the showing this year will feature  competition between the junior comedians and the second night among those labeled as the heavyweights.
At a media briefing yesterday, in Upscale Restaurant, on Hinck Street, also in Georgetown, the producers and cast spoke about the various aspects of the forthcoming entertainment.
Co-producer Jones said the intention is to offer something new and different as the public has always been treated to very little adult comedy in Guyana.
He said it would be beneficial to the tourism industry and it is not meant for Guyanese only but for visiting tourists, to interest them by showcasing the new and experienced talented comedians this country has to offer.
Attracts visitors
Jones claimed that infrastructure does a lot to help the tourism sector but the entertainment segment provides what attracts visitors the most.
He said he is inspired by the ‘King of Comedy’, Habeeb Khan, who has always taught him that it is meant for relaxation and laughter which is the main aim of the coming show.

Comedy always works as a medicine for the stressed mind and this show features plain talk and freedom of expression, Jones offered.
He said all his years working in the comedy industry of Guyana, he has discovered that this country has a lot of young talented individuals and, every year, Uncensored has been featuring some of the new faces.
Jones reiterated that attendance is very affordable, as, this  year, it takes a more competitive form, with the comedians not only there to entertain but also to compete against each other for the title of Guyana’s best comedian.
The competitors will be judged by people who are qualified to be judges of comedy, like Ron Robinson, Al Creighton and Margaret Lawrence, among others.
The performance has been approved by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, as it includes no indecent exposure, yet it aims is to have the audience enjoy to the fullest without the worry of children adapting inappropriate behaviour.
Prizes for the competition include a Blackberry phone sponsored by Cellular Plus; a gold chain from Elegance Jewelry and Pawn Shop; a video camera from Giftland Office Max and various consolation prizes from Payless Variety Store.
Worked tirelessly
Producer Maria Benschop, who has worked tirelessly with Uncensored throughout the years, said it started with a handful of standup comedians and has provided enough excitement to grace more than one show.
She said she has worked with other comedy shows across Guyana, such as ‘Nothing to laugh about’ and all turned out to be very successful.
The cast comprises of Jones, Khan, Henry Rodney, Miranda Austin, Kerwyn Mars, Odessa Primus, Chubby and Chris Gopaul, amongst newcomers Leza Singh and Kwesi Edmonson.
Tickets can be obtained from Giftland Office Max, Nigel’s Supermarket, Payless Variety Store, Elegance Jewelry and Pawn Shop and the NCC.
