Fire ravages MFK Trading
–as firemen battle to save Ashmins
WORD at press time was that the former MFK Trading on lower Hadfield Street, Stabroek, was last night as good as gutted, following a raging fire which at one point threatened Ashmin’s, a popular department store just around the corner on High Street.
Sources say the conflagration started around 20:00hrs or thereabout, following a loud explosion from somewhere inside the five-storey MFK Trading, which has now changed hands.
Up to 22:30hrs, the fire was said to be still smouldering as firemen valiantly battled to contain it, and according to reports, there would be nothing left to salvage when the flames finally die.
Meanwhile, police have cordoned off the area in question in an effort to control the growing press of curious onlookers. More in tomorrow’s edition.
