GTUC has caused disunity among workers for too long

I WISH to write and make my comments in relation to two letters in the KN dated May 10 and May 12, 2012 respectively and captioned: “The PPP intended all along to use the budget to call a snap election” by Mr. M Maxwell and Mr. L Lewis titled:  “The President has opted for divide and rule strategy.” Having read both articles, it is not a surprise to me and the majority of Guyanese who are accustomed to these criticisms against the PPP/C administration propagating and trying to deny the development progress made by the PPP/C government in the last 19 years, so they must look at their organisations with regard to accountability and transparency by throwing stones as a retired public servant.
I have attended conferences of the Guyana Trades Union Congress (GTUC) and several workshops where the hierarchy of the GTUC bureaucrats at conferences will make mushroom unions hold control of the management and to prevent GAWU from the leadership of the GTUC, while the GPSU operates in a selection process rather than  election procedures.
As it relates, the PPP intended all along to use the budget to call a snap election which is a concern for Mr. Maxwell, APNU, AFC and all the other critics who are against the PPP/C government are fully aware that the opposition are spiteful, vindictive and discriminating by slashing $18B from the 2012 budget to prevent development on projects, to take off workers from their jobs and to suffer our Amerindian brothers and sisters through their one-seat majority in  Parliament.
President Mr. Donald Ramotar is an intelligent and mature leader, he is not a stupid and biased leader as the combined opposition leaders who are gossipping and speculating about a snap election because of the wrong things they have done by reducing the 2012 budget.
Recently at the old market entrance at Anna Regina, APNU had a public meeting where there were seven persons while passersby denounced and heckled them, putting more pressure on the opposition to speculate.
For too long the leadership (GTUC) has caused disunity among the workers of this country, so when Mr. Lewis writes that the President has opted for a divide and rule strategy, he is giving the impression that President Ramotar is one-sided, but President Ramotar is leading a party of all races and religious beliefs and he will never make statements as the late leader of the PNC Forbes Burnham, who said “never in the history can canoe bore punt” and you have to born a PNC to be a PNC.
As a young man I can recall in Region 2 the horrible hardship and constraints Essequibians endured under the dictatorship of the PNC when  it banned essential food items such as flour, peas, cooking oil, soup etc, causing shops to close business, while you had to line up at the Anna Regina PNC centre from 06:00 hours for one item only to be told at 17:00 hours there is no such item while their colleagues bypassed the lines and collected all items.
Mr. Lewis as a trade unionist may be unaware that during the PNC’s rule hundreds of workers from Region 2 D&I, Sea Defence, Roads, Buildings, Health were taken off their jobs and went to break strikes on the West Coast sugar estates and received payments from Region 2 and from the sugar estates and these strike breakers had received payments from both  Region 2 and from the sugar estates, so when the opposition talking and propagating transparency corruption and accountability, they are the ones who are answerable for wrong doings.
Let me mention for example under the PNC regime there was a Ministry of National Mobilisation that used to receive funding from the national budget to finance Congress Place and YSM activities from taxpayers’ monies for their fat cats.
In Region 2  these same “wines in new bottles” want to hold on to executive power and to change their own 1980 constitution in a similar manner when in 1978 the PNC held a referendum when 70 per cent boycotted it and the PNC took 97 per cent and in 1980 Burnham, became Executive President.
During the PNC period workers were promoted at a PNCuniversity at Lake Mainstay where they was a one-month encamping where the hierarchy of the PNC and activitists and some favoured heads of department  including field officers, managers, drivers, engineers bypassing senior and quality public servants. Those were the Ian Smith/South Africa days. It was this same opposition, who are creating problems in this country, who cannot give account for hundreds of millions of dollars which were deducted from their salaries without their approval for defence bonds.
I can rightly say  under the PPP leadership at central and regional levels since 1992 to this day I have worked and dwelled in several organisations where there are no differences in race, labour, education, personal interest, family and social background, financial circumstance and moral standards. But some elements want to mislead the youths of this country by creating mischievous propagandas against the PPP/C government using “fat cats” by slashing $18B from the 2012 budget by using their one seat majority in Parliament.
