Insurance manager murdered

– car hijacked
LIONEL Bert-White, 44 years,  of  79 Phoenix Park, West Bank Demerara was murdered last evening after he was stabbed in the region of the heart by persons who hijacked his motorcar.
Bert-White worked at the Guyana and Trinidad Mutual Fire and Life Insurance Company (GTM) as an assistant manager.  Before taking up that post at the insurance company, he worked at the Georgetown Public Hospital as a personnel manager.
Speaking with the Guyana Chronicle at the Georgetown Public Hospital last evening, the man’s niece explained that her uncle may have been heading to or from the bank for a transaction after he was pounced on by the criminals.
She explained that after being robbed of two cell phones and a few other items her uncle was dumped in the vicinity of Palm Court on Main Street where he attempted to run but collapsed. She added that her uncle was then picked up by a passing taxi that rushed him to the GPHC where he died while receiving medical attention.  She said her uncle may have been alive today had it not been for a heart complication and the fact that he was stabbed in the region of the heart.
The young lady told the Chronicle she last spoke to her uncle who dropped off a package at her workplace earlier in the day. She said he sent her a text message asking if she received the package and she responded to him, via text, but got no response.
Meanwhile, speaking from the family home at Phoenix Park where Lionel also lived, his sister Mary Kennedy told this publication that she suspected that something was wrong when her older brother came home and instructed her to call a taxi and ordered his nephew to come with him.
Kennedy said she enquired but was not informed that her brother had died. She added that she later received several calls bearing different accounts of what was happening. The woman added that she was told her brother was involved in an accident, then, a caller later informed her that her brother had died and then another call came telling her that her brother’s car was hijacked and that he was murdered and dumped on the roadside.
Over at the house, family members were inconsolable as they tried to come to grips with the reality that a family member who did no wrong to anyone was murdered senselessly.
The family is contending that there may be some other reason behind the man’s murder. Police investigations are ongoing.

Lionel Bert-White was employed at the insurance company for less than a year.
