Linden Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ …

Hard Knocks and AW Russians to contest final
PENALTY kicks were the deciding factor at the end of regulation and extra time in semifinals of this year’s Banks DIH-sponsored Linden Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ Futsal football competition, which was contested on Thursday night at the Amelia’s Ward/Wisroc bus park.
Out of such, Hard Knocks and Amelia’s Ward Russians will battle in next Saturday’s final at the same venue, after they both recorded 2-1 victories over Porkerburg and last year’s runners-up Retrieve Unknowns in their respective semifinal matches, following a nil-all stalemate during regulation and extra time.
The victorious semi-finalists will battle for the top prize of $500 000, a trophy, one year of bragging rights in the mining town and a place in the first-ever Regional Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ competition which kicks off in Guyana sometime soon. The second-placed team will pocket $250 000.
The third- and fourth-place contest which precedes next Saturday’s final will be contested between Retrieve Unknowns and Porkerburg, with the winner taking home $150 000 and the losers $100 000, while there is an individual prize for the Most Valuable Player (MVP).
The action, which brings the curtain down on another year of exciting Futsal football competition in the mining town, will kick off at 18:0hrs, with several exhibition matches being carded for the night, even though the contestants are unknown at this time.
