Dead father of 10 taken from Pomeroon River

THE swollen and decomposing body of a 53-year-old man was discovered floating in the Pomeroon River last Friday morning. The father of 10, who worked as a labourer on a farm in the Lilydale area, upper Pomeroon, fell into the river while paddling a canoe to go shopping for cigarettes.
It is reported that he had been consuming alcohol before he fell into the river.
His wife, Valerie and children became worried after he did not return home and began a search for him but his corpse was only discovered three days after  by some residents who were travelling in a boat and the police were informed.
The body, in an advanced state of decomposition, was retrieved by the police and taken to Charity Hospital mortuary, where a post mortem examination is to be conducted to determine the cause of death.
The deceased had lived with his family at Seven Miles, Moruca, in North West District, before moving to the Pomeroon River in pursuit of employment.
