CHAIRMAN of Region 2 (Pomeroon/Supenaam), Mr. Parmanand Persaud, on Friday, visited the busy Anna Regina Market on the Essequibo Coast and announced new arrangements for vending. Interacting with the scores of vendors and shoppers, in company with the Mayor, Mr. Sammy Rampersaud; acting Town Clerk Ms. Dianna Critchlow and municipality staffers, Persaud spoke about encroachment on the roadway to the market.
He said the makeshift stalls on the road shoulders are creating problems for traffic and for people shopping, in terms of congestion.
Consequently, Persaud said those vending must occupy the stalls inside the market building to conduct their businesses.
The sellers, however, told the chairman that, while they are willing to move, the council should give them stalls that are comfortable and are in an area where active business can be conducted.
Persaud warned that the Town Council will take strong action against vendors continuing to occupy the road shoulders and would move, immediately, to have them relocated in the market area.
He encouraged vendors to cooperate with the council and undertook to ensure that stalls are provided for them.
