THREE armed, unmasked bandits, rushed into Steve Auto Spares, in New Amsterdam, Berbice, last Thursday night, when they robbed the owner and two customers of cash and valuables worth a total of $200,000. The proprietor, Stephen Sankar was in his yard, at Lot 22 Asylum Street, conversing with Roy Jafferally and Somonlall Sankar, when they were interrupted by the intrusion.
The robbers, armed with a shotgun, a long gun and a cutlass, respectively, surrounded the victims, pointing their weapons at them while demanding money and jewellery.
Sankar, in an attempt to resist the bandit with the long gun, was assaulted on his mouth, before being relieved of a gold chain valued $140,000, a $45,000 mobile phone and a wallet containing a commercial bank card.
During the robbery, the bandit with the cutlass threatened to inflict injuries on Jafferrally and the visiting Sankar, causing them, collectively, to hand over $55,000.
After the booty was collected, two of the armed men forcefully escorted Stephen Sankar into his residence which is above his business, where they carried out a search but took nothing of value.
Sankar was then returned to his customers, who were being guarded by the other bandit with the shotgun, before they escaped through Republic Road and disappeared into Mount Sinai, on the fringe of the New Amsterdam township.
Police are continuing their investigations into the incident.
