Six other teams qualify for next round of Banks/Digicel Mayor’s Cup Inter-Ward tourney

SIX other wards will now join Tiger Bay and West Ruimveldt to complete the first eight qualifiers in the 24-Ward Banks/Digicel Mayor’s Cup Inter-Ward  tournament.
Bourda, Kuru Kururu, Kitty, Alberttown, Mocha and West Ruimveldt Estate are the other wards to move to the next round.
Bourda won over Werk-en-Rust in an exciting match which ended in a nil-all draw. In extra time the score was unchanged then on to the penalty spot for a decision, where Bourda won 3-2.
Kuru Kururu, who fought bravely against an experienced and fit Lodge line-up, came out in similar fashion like the Bourda Blues after a penalty shoot-out, 4-2.
Kitty were the only team at the end of regulation time to lead 4-2, against the Wales team.
In other matches played Sunday, Alberttown upset Sophia and Charlestown lost to Mocha on penalty shoot-outs 5-3. The final game saw West Ruimveldt brush aside Grove 2-0 to secure a place in the first eight.
The action continues today with another triple-header. The opening game at 17:30hrs pits North East La Penitence against Bourda. The second game will bring together Den Amstel and Kitty at  19:00hrs while in the final game at 20:00hrs Wortmanville will oppose Pouderoyen.
Tomorrow when the action continues at the same venue at similar times, Alexander Village will take on Mocha, Campbellville come up against West Ruimveldt Estate. and the final game brings together Kingston and Kuru Kururu.
Friday’s play will conclude the final-16, with West Ruimveldt and Newtown clashing then in the feature game Tiger Bay will oppose  Alberttown.
The quarterfinals will be played on Sunday April 1 and Wednesday April 4 with the semi-finals on Friday 6th.. .
The final of the competition is set for Friday, April 13.
At stake will be over G$1M in cash and other individual prizes. The tournament’s major sponsors are Banks DIH Ltd, Digicel, M. Beepat & Sons.
