ORIN Hubert, of Lot 41 Eccles, East Bank Demerara, was remanded to prison yesterday, on a charge of larceny from the person. He appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry and pleaded not guilty to having, on March 23, stolen one ‘Apple’ Ipod, valued $100,000 and one cell phone, worth $17,000, both from Christian Sobers.
Police Sergeant Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, had no objection to bail since the defendant is known and the items were recovered in the possession of the defendant.
However, the magistrate denied Hubert pre-trial freedom bail and informed the prosecutor that she is not minded to grant him liberty.
The defendant must return to court tomorrow.
