The severely wounded body of Bibi Shameena Khairoodin was found in her home at East Canefield, East Canje Berbice at about 23:25 hrs on Tuesday, March 20, 2012.
Police said the woman’s husband, the prime suspect, remains at large up to press time.
He reportedly shot his wife to death at their home in a drunken rage on Tuesday night. He had been charged for assault committed on her on February 01, 2012, and was placed on a one-year bond by the court.
The 45-year-old Ramdani Persaud, an overseas based-Guyanese, had earlier gone out for ‘drinks with friends’, and had returned home and had quarrelled with his wife in their bedroom, during which he dealt her several stabs with a knife to the body even while their teenage son was at home.
He had secured the door before committing the act, making it impossible for their son, who had heard his mother’s screams, to reach her; and then he had reportedly fled the scene, leaving his mortally wounded wife lying in a pool of blood.
The woman used to operate a grocery store on the lower flat of their two-storey house, and had also tended to a kitchen garden. She was said to have been a quiet home maker.
She had also been the victim of constant domestic abuse by her husband whenever he consumed alcohol.
