Georgetown resident remanded for murder of Venezuelan miner

LAST MONDAY, West Ruimveldt, Georgetown resident, Lawrence Leroy Semple, 33, was charged with the murder of Venezuelan national Jose Lamon Valenzuela, whose body was found in a playground at Mabaruma, North West District (NWD) on March 11, last. Semple appeared before Georgetown Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton, and was remanded to prison until May 22, 2012.
A post-mortem examination performed on the body of 46-year-old Jose Ramon Valenzuela gave the cause of death as asphyxiation, due to compression to the neck compounded by blunt trauma to the head.
Valenzuela’s body was found at the Sports Ground at Mabaruma, North West District on March 11 last with multiple injuries, after he was seen drinking with several men at a bar in the neighbourhood earlier that evening.
