Berbice schools get donatons to promote health, cleanliness
A COLLABORATIVE initiative between Food for the Poor (FFP) and St. Francis Community Developers (SFCD), got underway at the latter’s Port Mourant, Corentyne annexe, last Monday, with the handing over of supplies to several schools in East Berbice.
Dubbed ‘Healthy hands, Healthy Bodies’, SFCD President Alex Foster said, that while washing hands is important, it significantly reduces the spread of diseases to the body.
Speaking also as the FFP representative, he said the gesture to the schools is aimed at keeping children in school healthy as they promote clean hands.
Mr. Foster said hand washing, though simple, is important, particularly in schools, where lots of things are shared – desks, books, pencils, food and even germs. Without cleaning hands properly, a single infection can quickly spread amongst children, teachers, family members and friends.
Among the beneficiary schools which received soft care lotions, hand soap and foaming instant hand sanitizers, Vicks Ny Quil cough and night flu syrup were Tutorial Academy Secondary, New Amsterdam Multilateral, Loer Corentyne and Winifred Gaskin Secondary, Rose Hall Primary and Ankerville Nursery.
The learning institutions are expected to have their attendees utilise the donations for the purposes given.
