Two remanded on Stabroek Market armed robbery charge

TWO men were remanded to prison, by Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday, on a joint robbery under arms charge. Marvin English and Daren Junior (no addresses given) were not required to plea to the indictable offences, particulars of which said, on March 20, at Stabroek Market, being armed with a knife, they robbed Radha Bahadur of $200,000 and one gold band valued $50,000.
Sergeant Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, successfully objected to bail and informed the court that the men are well known to the Police and have similar charges pending.
He said, that day, the virtual complainant was approached by the duo who put a knife to her neck and demanded that she hand over the items.
The prosecutor said the woman complied and then raised an alarm, to which a nearby police patrol responded and apprehended the men but recovered nothing from them.
Attorney-at-law Mr. George Thomas, who represented the accused maintained they are not flight risks and will attend their trial but the magistrate refused them bail and ordered them to return on
March 28.
