BEING a female member of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) is not all about drills, guns and wearing any uniform. This was never more evident than last Friday evening when the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) held its first ever beauty pageant at the National Cultural Centre (NCC) as part of a number of activities to mark another anniversary in the annals of the Women’s Army Corps (WAC).
Bedecked in glamorous and eye-catching gowns, the 11 delegates showcased their feminine side, and at the end of it all, it was 24-year-old Lance Corporal (L/Cpl) Shameka Devonish of the Air Corps who gained the judges’ nod to be declared `Queen’.
