CBR Mining Milerock and Amelia’s Ward United made use of their home advantage with similar 2-0 wins against Den Amstel and Seawall United respectively, in the Guyana Football Federation-organised National Super League first-round matches, which were played on Sunday night at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground. In the process Milerock are still unbeaten after two games while Amelia’s Ward remain with one loss and a win.
Playing in familiar conditions on the MSC turf, Milerock first registered their win in front of a fair-sized crowd with goals coming in the 1st minute of the game. Jermain Fordyce completed a nice run down the left flank in a change of play from Jermaine McBean who was motoring down the left side and allowed for the resultant goal being scored from a beautiful header which rocked the back of the net.
Milerock then doubled the score when in the 29th minute another play developed from the left flank and Dishawan Joseph was able to feed the ball into the middle where Jermaine McBean collected the ball on his chest and unleashed a shot that put his team 2-0 up in the encounter.
Despite the many attempts by Den Amstel throughout the game, Milerock coasted home to a comfortable 2-0 victory.
The second game brought together another Linden side in Amelia’s Ward who were under pressure having lost their opening game against Alpha United last week Sunday.
However they were able to come away with a solid win under the circumstances. They gained the upper hand in this contest after a through pass from Travis Waterton saw young Terrence Aaron completing the effort with a goal in the 38th minute.
The second winning goal was scored when Jermain Corlette from the wing sent the ball to a rushing Gavin Daw who ripped the back of the net with a powerful drive in the 64th minute.
This formulated the eventual 2-0 win for Amelia’s Ward as both home teams came out winners.
