Four charged with multi-million dollars burglary

FOUR men, charged with committing a multi-million dollars burglary, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate, Priya Sewnarine-Beharry on a joint charge yesterday. Patrick Smith, of Lot 164 Curtis Street and Renhart Khan, of Lot 147 Cooper Street, both in Albouystown and Conrad Lupe, of Lot 128 Third Street, Alexander Village, also in Georgetown, as well as Loris Musendeen, of Lot 101 Granville Park, Beterverwagting, East Coast Demerara, are charged indictably.
Particulars of the offence said on the day in question, at Blygezight Gardens, Campbellville, in the city, too, they broke and entered the dwelling house of Tie Sheng Ye and stole $3.7M, 6,000 yen (equivalent to G$2M) and US$7,000 (G$1.7M).
Police Sergeant, Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, said the virtual complainant had secured his home and gone out but received information that it had been broken into and he, immediately, returned there.
The prosecutor said Sheng discovered the place had been ransacked and the money missing.
According to the prosecutor, Smith was the first to be arrested and he gave police information which led to the arrest of the others but Musendeen was held only on what the other accused reported.
Musendeen was granted $100,000 bail while the three others were remanded to prison until March 14.
