GUYANA’S 42nd Republic anniversary celebration on February 23 was nothing short of stupendous, according to Government’s Top Spokesman, Dr. Roger Luncheon. He reported that this was the strongly expressed view by Cabinet members, who registered their gratitude and congratulated the participants of the various competitions and displays.
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Dr. Frank Anthony also came in for high commendations from his colleagues, who brought together the weight of his administration in the planning and the execution of a remarkably successful event.
The Mash day activities commenced with the customary flag-raising ceremony at Parliament Building in the morning of February 23, followed by costume and float parade.
Flag-raising ceremonies were also held in all ten administrative regions, which were attended by various Government Ministers.
An estimated 80,000 people were on the road to witness the Mash Day celebrations while some regions such as 1, 2, 6, 7 and 10 had their own street parades.
The children’s float parade saw 40 schools participating while a new aspect, choral competition, was added.
Events were celebrated under the theme, “Mashin with Pride, keepin our tradition alive.”
