TEDDY Persaud, a minibus driver, was killed early yesterday morning when, the bus he was driving crashed into the front of a parked truck at Stanleytown, Public Road, West Bank Demerara. The 35-year-old was the only occupant of the bus.
Persaud, called “Bow Foot”, was at the time making his way home to 490, Good Intent, West Bank Demerara, when he was killed.
A resident of Stanleytown, James Forrester, told the Guyana Chronicle yesterday that it was about 00:50hrs yesterday when he was awakened by a loud impact.
Forrester added that when he looked out and saw a minibus up against a truck parked in front his house.
He rushed outside and saw Persaud trapped in his vehicle which had run into the truck.
Persaud was pinned in the bus and with the assistance of passersby, Forrester managed to drag the driver from the mangled bus.
They rushed him to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Meanwhile, the man’s grieving mother, Yubrajie Persaud, told the Guyana Chronicle that she was awakened by a telephone call at about 01:15hrs saying that her son was involved in a road accident and he had died.
She went to the West Demerara Hospital where she was told that her son had died.
Yubrajie Persaud said that the father of two left home for work and she last saw him alive on Saturday.
He had been a minibus driver for about eight years. His wife died four years ago and his father died last October.
The woman added that another son ingested poison and died some time ago. She lamented how she lost all the men in her life, except for an eight-year-old grandson.
