Blankenburg murder victim laid to rest at Victoria

THIRTY-THREE-YEAR-OLD Roshcell Rodney was laid to rest, at the Victoria Cemetery on the East Coast of Demerara, on Tuesday, one week after she was murdered by her husband, Shawn Rodney, at their Blankenburg, West Coast Demerara, home. Her relatives and friends gathered at St. Mark’s Anglican Church, a short distance from where she lived in the same village, to pay their respects as she was remembered as a very good person to many.
But, with her killer on the run, her family members are still not satisfied and are calling for justice to be served.
Her father, Allan Thomas, speaking to the media by telephone on Monday, said the fugitive is believed to have fled to French Guiana and, if local police do not collaborate with their counterparts there, the man may flee to Holland, as he is the holder of a French Guiana visa.
Thomas said he was reliably informed that CEDIC, a trawler company with which the killer is employed, will no longer be in operation and is expected to pay severance to its workers.
He added that, because of this new development, he is of the view that his daughter’s husband would elude capture and not face the consequences for his action.
Rodney was killed by her husband of almost two years, following an altercation between them at their Lot 172 Boodhoo Housing Scheme house, Blankenburg.
While it is still not known what triggered the gruesome killing, investigators are doing their best to bring some clarity to the issue and the man to account.
Family members who were allowed to view the body, said the victim’s throat and both wrists were slashed and, to ensure, that she was dead, her husband pierced the region of the heart, all in front his six-year-old adopted son, Renaldo Doris, whom he took with him when escaping from the scene.
After sending the child home to his wife’s family in a taxi, the man abandoned the motor car he drove, at Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara.
