Young voters disappointed: APNU and AFC are one and the same

THE events unfolding in the National Assembly are interesting, but not the least bit surprising if one were to look at the recent action of the Joint Opposition.
I refer to  APNU and  the AFC as the joint opposition since the line separating the two parties seems to have faded and once more Guyanese have found themselves in the pre-1992 era when living in this country was a nightmare with little hope of waking up.
The young voters who voted for the Joint Opposition were either not educated about that period in our country’s history or they decided to give them the opportunity to prove that they are not wolves in sheep’s clothing.
How disappointing it must be for these voters who put them in a parliamentary majority when they saw that the AFC and APNU are one and the same. I can only sympathise with them for the deception that they fell victims to when they voted for ‘change’.
As for the APNU, this is just another name for the PNC, and after all Raphael Trotman was once a member of that party.
No wonder he got the support of both his real home (APNU aka PNC) and his foster home (AFC) making him the speaker of the National Assembly and his colleague Deborah Backer the Deputy Speaker. These people epitomise the phrase “by any means necessary” as is demonstrated during the recent unfolding in Parliament.
What we (the electorate) are seeing is the PNC in their true colours scheming to get control of political power once more, hence the name change, the split resulting in an arm (the AFC) and the inevitable rejoining of the two in Parliament to conspire against the PPP/C were part of this scheme all along.
My sympathies to the young voters who felt that  they were being magnanimous when they voted for the AFC. By so doing you have all voted for the PNC aka APNU, since there is no distinguishing lines between the two anymore.
However, their blatant disregard for the tripartite process in discussions about the speakership and hogging both the Speaker and deputy Speaker positions may come back to haunt them since they are the ones who made the first blunder after begging for shared governance.
This has confirmed in the minds of people what they suspected all along: that both the AFC and APNU aka PNC have deceived the Guyanese electorate to win a majority in Parliament for their own gains and the unfolding events will tell.
Guyana is indeed sensitively poised and the Government could either give the joint opposition another chance to work with them or base its decisions on the reality of what the opposition is; a deceptive and scheming, power-drunk party whose only interest is self.
After this first episode with the speaker and deputy speaker, I balk at the thought of what the future holds for Guyanese and I laugh at Granger’s call for more than consultation with regard to the national budget.
