DANRAJ Assibad, who is alleged to have dragged his wife upstairs with a rope tied around her neck and then ordered her to perform oral sex on him, was yesterday put on $40,000 bail and bonded to keep the peace pending the conclusion of the case. Assibad, who gave his address as Lot 249 Kaneville, Grove, East Bank Demerara, pleaded not guilty to the charge which said, on December 26, 2011, at Sarah Johanna, East Bank Demerara, he unlawfully assaulted Kamla Assibad.
Police Sergeant Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, told Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry that, about 09:00hrs, the defendant went home and accused his wife of having an affair. He placed a piece of rope around the woman’s neck, dragged her up the steps and started beating her with a cutlass.
The prosecutor said the man then took out his penis and ordered her to perform oral sex.
But the defendant denied that he did all those things to his wife and told the court that, on Christmas Day, he and his wife went to a friend’s house and had a “nice time.”
He said they left for home but his wife disappeared from inside the minibus when he went to buy something and did not return to their residence until the next day.
Assibad said the woman went home with hickeys on her neck and breasts and she usually nags him and puts tablets in his food for ulterior reasons.
Prosecutor Harvey did not object to bail for the defendant because he said the virtual complainant moved to her uncle’s house at Herstelling, also on East Bank Demerara, to where, the case has been transferred to Providence Court for January 13.
