DELON Collins, a 29-year-old fireman, was shot dead in Berbice on Christmas Eve Night at around 23:15 hrs as he, his fiancée, Probation and Welfare Officer Nadine Crawford,32, and three children were about to enter their yard at Alness Village, Corentyne shortly after returning from shopping. Police said the family was confronted by four men armed with firearms, who took away jewellery and $62,000 from them. In the process, Delon Collins was shot to his chest, after which the perpetrators escaped. Collins was pronounced dead on arrival at the Port Mourant Hospital.
Sophia shooting
At about 8pm on Christmas Eve Night, Insurance Agent Andrew Correia, 56, of ‘D’ Field, Sophia, was walking along the roadway at ‘A’ Field, Sophia when he observed two suspicious looking men standing on the road.
He told police that he threw a bag he had in his possession into a friend’s yard, whereupon one of the men shot him to his left foot before they both escaped. Correia has been admitted a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital as the investigations continue.
ECD shooting
At around 11pm on Christmas Eve Night, food vendor Babalyn Cozier, 48, and Trenton Benn, 57, were at home at Goedverwagting, East Coast Demerara when two men armed with firearms entered through an open door and held them up.
Police said the men then ransacked the place and took away jewellery, two cell phones, and $155,000. In the process, Trenton Benn was shot to his left leg before the perpetrators escaped. Benn has been admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
