Minister Sukhai spreads Christmas cheer at Amerindian Residence

PATIENTS at the Amerindian Residence, Georgetown, were feted at a Christmas lunch sponsored by the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs on December 23. Minister of Amerindian Affairs Pauline Sukhai and Permanent Secretary Nigel Dharamlall joined the patients to share the goodwill for the festive season.
The Christmas luncheon has been an annual part of the ministry’s calendar of activities for the past three years.  Minister Sukhai wished the patients all the best for the season and a speedy recovery. She noted that while Christmas is a time for being with families at home, it was necessary for the patients to stay in the care of the hostel so that they can complete their medical treatment in Georgetown.
Minister Sukhai noted that the ministry is continuously working to ensure that the services provided at the hostel are improved and are efficiently delivered. She emphasized the commitment of the government to delivering quality health care and other welfare services to Amerindians and hinterland residents.
She assured the patients that they will be well taken care of by the hostel staff who will provide needed support, care and comfort.
The lunch consisted of traditional Amerindian cuisine and other foods. The minister presented the patients with gifts. Other staff members of the ministry were also present in the event. (GINA)
