In traditional Yuletide message…

President urges nation to celebrate Christmas in true Guyanese fashion
PRESIDENT Donald Ramotar, in his first Christmas message to the nation, has not only urged the privileged amongst us to be charitable to the less fortunate, but the populace in general to celebrate the season as only Guyanese can.
“…let us continue to extend our kindness and giving to the less fortunate. Over the decades, Christmas has become an event that binds all Guyanese, both at home and abroad, in the most compelling behaviour that characterises a sense of belonging and our hospitality. Let us therefore, this Christmas, celebrate in ways that display the most captivating accounts of celebrating Christmas the Guyanese way,” the President said.
The following is the full text of his message:
“It is with joy and expectation that I extend, on behalf of the Government of Guyana and myself and family, Christmas greetings to all Guyanese.
This most eagerly anticipated event provides us with an opportunity for celebration and nostalgia, and ushers in a season of goodwill that stretches across cultures and religions.
In Guyana, we have all traditionally embraced Christmas as a time when peace, goodwill and charity abound. At this time, therefore, I invite all Guyanese to open their hearts to this spirit of sharing that epitomizes Christmas.
As we share in this season of Christmas, let us continue to extend our kindness and giving to the less fortunate. Over the decades, Christmas has become an event that binds all Guyanese, both at home and abroad, in the most compelling behaviour that characterises a sense of belonging and our hospitality.  Let us therefore, this Christmas, celebrate in ways that display the most captivating accounts of celebrating Christmas the Guyanese way.
My fellow Guyanese, let us, in the spirit of the season, highlight our togetherness and the freedoms that we enjoy as Guyanese. Let us promote goodwill, peace and responsible behaviour that have been so characteristic of Guyana of old.
May we all have a peaceful and blessed Christmas!”
