Chronicle Editor-in-Chief Ramotar robbed by gunmen at Agricola

EDITOR-IN-CHIEF of the Guyana Chronicle, Mahendra ‘Mark’  Ramotar, was the victim of an armed robbery early yesterday morning, on Agricola Public Road. He was on his way home from work about 00:30 hrs in his vehicle PJJ 3422, when, in the vicinity of Houston,  he observed a car next to his vehicle proceeding at a fast rate, but did not suspect anything.
But when he reached Agricola, the other vehicle forced him out of his lane, and to avoid a
collision, he slammed into a concrete median and his vehicle came to a halt.
The car that forced him off the road sped away and then made a u-turn and came back alongside him.
Two men of African descent came out of the vehicle and offered to assist him. The next thing he knew, the men placed guns to his right temple and chest and relieved him of his gold chain and pendant, a laptop computer and his licensed semi-automatic firearm
Ramotar said he was able to flee the scene, but went back later with a police patrol to retrieve his vehicle and had it towed away for repairs.
Earlier in the night, he said he had left a media function with a colleague photographer, whom he had dropped off in Kitty and returned to his office, where he spent some time before leaving for his Best Village, West Coast Demerara residence.
Ramotar, who was still a bit shaken by the incident at the time of this interview, said he is thankful for life and believes that he was probably trailed by the robbers and ambushed.
The Police are investigating.
