IT will be Christmas behind bars for two East Bank Demerara young men who appeared in the Providence Magistrate’s Court yesterday to answer a joint charge of break and enter and larceny. Jason Lammy, 19, of 26 Peter’s Hall, and Delon Adams, 31, of 2 Bagotstown, pleaded guilty and were each given a three-year jail sentence by Magistrate Leslie Sobers. The men were accused of, on Monday last, breaking and entering the dwelling place of Deoram Ramsaroop, of 544 Block 4, Section C, Golden Grove, and stealing $12,500; one gold ring valued $40,000; two gold chains worth $140,000; two gold bands worth $80,000; a $2,000 haversack and Digicel phonecards to the value of $98, 500. All the items were valued at $393,500.
The court was told that on the day in question at about 11:30hrs, the virtual complainant secured his home and left for the city.
Upon his return at 14:30hrs he discovered that the southern wooden door was forced open.
Acting on information, Ramsaroop contacted the Golden Grove Police and then proceeded to another door which to his surprise was opened by Lammy.
The police arrived on the scene promptly and arrested Lammy and a search unearthed Adams hiding in a wardrobe.
Questioned by the magistrate what prompted their actions, Adams said that he had gone to Diamond and saw a bird cage which he wanted.
He then went to the house where he realized he could have easily gained access and began removing articles.
