Fire destroys Linden, Albion homes

–victims lose everything
72-YEAR-OLD Maurice Marshall of Lot 59 Ariwa Oval Retrieve, McKenzie has been rendered homeless by a Tuesday afternoon fire of unknown origin which completely destroyed his house while he was out walking in the Linden neighbourhood.
Neighbours firstly observed thick black smoke emanating from one of the two apartments on the bottom flat of the building before the blaze quickly spread to other parts of the edifice.
* The mentally ill man occupied the upper flat, while the lower flat was unoccupied. A niece normally tends to his needs, and minutes before the blaze was spotted, she had taken food for her uncle.
On November 20, fire destroyed a dwelling house at Lot 774 One Mile, Wismar, Linden, displacing 15 persons in the process.
Meanwhile, a separate fire at Lot 110 Sand Reef, Albion, Corentyne Berbice, at about 03:30 hrs on Tuesday morning, completely destroyed the dwelling house of Rookmin Motielall and her family of four.
The family was aroused from sleep by the crackling sounds and swirling smoke produced as the house was being consumed by the flames. The fire reportedly started in the kitchen area in the bottom flat of the house, and it destroyed all the family’s worldly possessions, including a motorcycle that was parked there.
The Guyana Fire Service (GFS) said yesterday the causes of both fires are being investigated.
