$25,000 fine for carrying offensive weapon

DWAYNE Douglas (no address given) was fined $25,000 with the alternative of three months imprisonment yesterday, on conviction for possession of an offensive weapon. He pleaded guilty to the offence, before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, admitting that, on November 22, he had a knife without a reasonable explanation.
Police Corporal Jairam Luckhai, prosecuting, said ranks were on patrol, at the Georgetown Seawall, when they saw the defendant acting in a suspicious manner.
He was stopped and searched and could not give a reasonable explanation for the weapon that was found in his left side pants pocket, the prosecutor said.
