BFA 4th annual Cheddi Jagan Memorial tournament launched

THE fourth annual Cheddi B. Jagan Memorial Football Tournament which is organised by the Berbice Football Association (BFA) was officially launched this past Sunday at the Blairmont Estate Community Centre. Brief remarks from officials and organisers were made prior to a feature football match between defending champions New Amsterdam (N/A) United and National League team, Rosignol United.
The showdown was witnessed by a fair-sized crowd, which was quite supportive of Rosignol United and the youthful N/A United team.
N/A, who were without Adrian ‘Garnett’ Adams, Colin ‘Ash’ Bowry and a number of other senior players, held their own against fierce attacks from the Rosignol lads to stalemate the proceedings with a nil-all draw.
Meanwhile, Hopetown F.C, playing unbeaten in the Inter-Block tournament, sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Youth & Sport, emerged winner of the Berbice zone of the tournament with wins over Ithaca and Calcutta.
Hopetown will now travel to the City to match skills with the other zone winners this Saturday at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground.
