-as UG holds 45th convocation exercise
THE Turkeyen campus of the University of Guyana held its 45th convocation exercise yesterday, with close to 1400 students graduating with Bachelors degrees, diplomas and certificates. Degrees were conferred in various disciplines from the School of Education and Humanities, Faculties of Agriculture and Forestry, Health and Natural Sciences, Social Sciences and Technology.
For the first time ever, the University conferred Post-Graduate Diplomas in Urban Planning, offered through the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences; Water Resource Management, offered through the Faculty of Technology, in collaboration with Mc Gill University; the Masters in Business Administration and Public Administration, offered through the Faculty of Social Sciences, in collaboration with the Commonwealth of Learning; and the Bachelors Degree in Dental Surgery, offered by the Faculty of Health Sciences.
Vineeta Persaud of the Faculty of Natural Sciences won the President’s Medal for being the best graduating student with a Bachelor’s degree. Ravina Devi Ramessar of the Faculty of Social Sciences was the second best graduating Bachelor’s degree student; Mandy Thompson of the Faculty of Social Sciences won the University of Guyana Students Society (UGSS) Award; while Ricardo Major from the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry won the Council of University Prize and the K.A. Juman-Yassin Sport Award for participating in sports at a consistently high level.
