Guinness Greatest In De Street …

More teams crushed on second night
THE second night of the annual Banks DIH-organised Guinness ‘Greatest in De Street’ football competition saw another eight scheduled matches, with some teams claiming slim victories, others suffering blowouts and teams romping to a stalemate.
Football fans flocked the East Ruimveldt Basketball court to view some of the action. In the first half of the night Linden Eagles defeated Buxton 5–1, Linden Retrieve and Laing Avenue played to a 2–2 draw, Lodge Housing Scheme edged past Festival City 2–1 and Queen Street Tiger Bay needled Stevedore Housing Scheme.
After the break Back Circle thumped Plaisance 4-0, West Back Road beat Costello Housing Scheme 4-1, East Front Road drubbed Hope Street Tiger Bay 3-1 and West Front Road trounced North East La Penitence 3-0.
In the opening match of the night, goals from Eagles’ Dellon Charter (6th and 9th), Trenton Lashley (4th), Akemi Edwards (7th) and Colin David (11th) got them past Buxton who had their lone goal scored by Rudy Thomas (8th).
A double from Daniel Favorite (11th and 13th) along with a goal each from teammates Andy Duke (5th) and Dexter Bentick (7th) helped Back Circle to dispose of Plaisance in their encounter.
Adrian Fitzpatrick’s hat-trick which he recorded in the 10th, 13th and 17th minutes propelled West Back Road to a massive victory over Costello Housing Scheme. Fitzpatrick’s team mate Gerald Tyrell accounted for the team’s other goal while Shermon Anthony scored the losers’ only goal.
In the East Front Road/Hope Street battle, goals from Shakka Jones (2nd and 9th) and Vasile Cantzlaar (10th) for the former proved too much for Hope Street to handle. Their only goal was scored by Stephon Greene in the 13th minute.
The final game of the night saw West Front Road’s Hubert Pedro score in the seventh and 12th minutes with support from his teammate Ola Pedro (4th) to comfortably dispose of North East La Penitence.
The action continues tonight at the Burnham Basketball Court from 18:00hrs with Norton Street vs BV, East La Penitence vs Plaisance, Costello Housing Scheme vs Leopold Street, Alexander Village vs Rasville, Queen Street Tiger Bay vs Kitty, Broad Street B vs Laing Avenue, Hope Street Tiger Bay vs Buxton and Globe Yard vs Lodge Housing Scheme.
