Sinclair, Giddings lead RHT Bakewell to easy victory
A SUPERB innings of 131 not out by Jason Sinclair and a fine bowling effort by West Indies female pacer Erva Giddings (4 for 26), guided Rose Hall Town Bakewell second division to their second successive victory in this year’s Berbice Cricket Board-organised New Building Society-sponsored second division tournament.
Batting first after being invited to do so by Nigg Intruders, RHT Bakewell were given a solid opening partnership by national Under-19 opener Dominic Rikhi and Berbice Under-17 player Nicholas Cameron before Rikhi was trapped lbw by medium pacer Basil Narine for 31 (3×4) at 53 for 1.
Cameron was joined by the aggressive Sinclair and they took the score to 103 in the 17th over before Cameron was stumped for a well-played 35 off former national Under-15 captain and left-arm spinner Suraj Paltoo.
Sinclair then went on a one-man assault on the visitors’ bowlers as the middle order suffered a mini collapse, but his unbeaten 131 came off 92 deliveries and was decorated with 16 fours and four huge sixes as RHT Bakewell ended on 242 for 9 with Giddings being unbeaten on 6 as she shared a 10th wicket partnership worth 34 runs with Sinclair.
Nigg Intruder suffered an early setback when former national Under-19 opener and Berbice ‘A’ player Harrinarine Chattergoon was beaten by the pace and swing of Giddings and was caught by Michael Hicks at first slip in the first over for 4.
They never recovered to threaten the RHT Bakewell score despite an attractive 43 from skipper Sham Sunidra and an attacking 26 not out from Kenneth Lallbeharry batting at No.11, as they were bowled out for 145 in the 28th over, as Giddings received support from Eon Hooper who took 2 for 20.
