THE driver of this partly submerged car apparently failed to properly negotiate this turn on the East Bank Demerara Highway in the vicinity of Second Street, Herstelling, around 03:30 hrs yesterday morning, resulting in the vehicle plunging into the nearby trench.
It is unclear in which direction the vehicle was travelling.
Ranks from Providence Police Station, a stone’s throw away, arrived on the scene soon after and were seen speaking to two men, who appeared unhurt, before leaving shortly after.
Around 05:45 hrs, the badly damaged vehicle was hoisted from the waterway and placed in a truck.
The particular bend on Herstelling Public Road has been the place where quite a few accidents occurred this year, the most recent less than two months ago, when a lorry slammed into a utility post, breaking it and plunging the entire area into darkness for several hours.
