Ranking seventh among secondary schools…

ARMS graduates 146 students with excellent CXC results
ONE hundred and forty-six students have graduated from the Anna Regina Multilateral School (ARMS) and are now ready to enter the world of work or attend the University of Guyana (UG) to pursue higher education.


At the 33rd graduation, hosted by the leading secondary school on the Essequibo Coast last Saturday, headmaster of the institution, Mr. Lalljeet Ruplall said students, who wrote 27 subjects at the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) examination, have done extremely well and kept the ARMS flag flying high.

In his report on the operations of the school, which has 900 students on roll, Ruplall said the year 2010-2011 can be described as a successful one.

According to him, the school secured 100 per cent passes at Agricultural Science, Building Technology, Economics, Food and Nutrition, Home Economics Management, Integrated Science, Office Administration, Physical Education, Principles of Accounts, Social Studies, Technical Drawing, Information Technology and Mechanical Engineering Technology.

Ruplall said students also did well in Biology (96.2 per cent); Caribbean History (96.4 per cent); Chemistry (92.3) per cent; English A (96.6 per cent); Human and Social Biology (88.2 per cent); Physics (92.3 per cent); Principles of Business (98.2 per cent) and Spanish (88.2 per cent).

The headmaster said there were 1,271 entries for the CXC examinations and the school achieved 450 grade one passes, 471 grade twos, 234 grade threes, 94 grade fours and 22 grade fives.

He said one student passed 14 subjects, three passed 13, four passed 12, nine passed 11, 10 passed 10, 18 passed nine, 31 passed eight and 29 passed seven.

Ruplall said this is the second time in the history of the school that it has achieved a percentage pass rate of over 90 per cent and 15 out of 27 got a 100 per cent.

In the feature address, to the gathering of parents, students and teachers, Deputy Chief Education Officer, Ms. Donna Chapman said ARMS ranks seventh among secondary schools across Guyana.

She said the school has, indeed, done excellent and congratulated students who have kept the flag of the school flying high.

Chapman challenged the students to stand firmly and aim for great heights as they enter the world of work.

The students were given a charge by Dr. Reneeka Persaud, daughter of retired ‘Best Headmaster of Guyana’, Mr. Maydha Persaud.

Best graduating students are Cynthia Jagmohan and Kevroy Lall.
