THE GUYANA Chess Federation (GCF) partnered with Smart Parts Auto Spares to sponsor the 2011 Senior Chess Championship Qualifier tournament which begins Sunday, October 30, at the KEI-SHAR’S Sports Club, 1 Hadfield St, Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown. CEO of Smart Parts Auto Spares, Melissa Chattergoon, presented a sponsorship cheque to Secretary of the GCF, Vishnu Rampersaud, who expressed gratitude to the company executive for the kind gesture and her support to chess.
The tournament consists of eight rounds and all senior and junior chess players are invited. Each player will be allotted 90 minutes per game plus an additional 30 seconds increment per move. Scoring of moves is compulsory and players are asked to walk with a pen.
Mid-November will see reigning national champion Taffin Khan square off against the top seven performers from the qualifiers for the title of Senior National Chess Champion.
The first two rounds will be contested on Sunday; round three is set for November 1 from 17:30hrs; round four is scheduled for November 3; rounds five and six are billed for November 5 at 13: 00hrs and the final two rounds will be played on November 7 from 10:00hrs.
Registration begins at 09:00hrs and the tournament starts one hour later. The fee is $800 for senior non-members of the Chess Federation and $600 for junior non-members.
