Guyana win time trial; road race on today
GUYANA made an impressive start to their quest of reclaiming their Inter Guiana games cycling title, when they won yesterday’s time trial.

The team of junior champion Neil Reece, Paul De Nobrega, Raynauth Jeffery and Michael Anthony won the men’s team event while Naomi Singh and Marica Dick finished second and third respectively in the women’s time trial.

Speaking with Chronicle Sport yesterday, national cycling coach Hassan Mohamed who is performing the duties of team manager on the tour, believes that the team would win today’s road race and added how impressed he was with their performance yesterday in the team and time trials.

He said that “it’s because of the steady events in Guyana that made those guys did well. Regular competition is always good for any cyclist when it comes to wanting to do well overseas. Today (yesterday) the guys stick to the plan we told them and they came out on top.”

Mohamed, however, mentioned if the girls had done what was told to them, the results would’ve been different.

“They (Singh and Dick) didn’t do exactly what we told them. They went out and did their own thing but any way, we are still proud of them. We will have a meeting tonight (last night) and so tomorrow (today) they will correct it in the road race.” Mohamed said.
