BERBICIAN Nigel Phillips of the Hard Core Gym was crowned Best Lifter at the 2011 Guyana Amateur Weightlifting Association (GAWA) Senior National Championships, which took place on Sunday last at the national Gymnasium.

Phillips who competed in the 85Kg weight class with a bodyweight of 78.9 Kg first snatched 87 Kg and Clean & Jerk 110 Kg to total 190Kg to finish on top of the six lifters who participated.
Deion Nurse from the True Foundation gym even though weighting more (84.3 kg), snatching 95 kg, Clean and Jerk  120 kg and totalled 215 kg; fell short to Phillips who had a coefficient of 243.06.

The GAWA expressed gratitude to Director of Sport Neil  Kumar for the availability of the Gymnasium to host the championships.
