A MIDDLE-AGED couple was late yesterday afternoon rushed to the Accident and Emergency Unit of the Georgetown Public Hospital in a serious condition, after being struck down on the Foulis Public Road, East Coast Demerara. Shivdiwari Etwaroo, 55, and his wife, Champawatti Abrahim, had just left a barbeque at Foulis, and were standing on the roadside awaiting transportation to go home, when a motor vehicle, reversing at a fast rate ploughed into them.
On impact, Etwaroo was flung several feet away, while Champawati was thrown face down and allegedly dragged by the vehicle.
At the hospital, she was admitted to the Female Surgical Ward, while her husband, bleeding and traumatized, was treated and kept on observation for some time.
The driver was taken into custody as police continue their investigations.
