A WOMAN yesterday appeared before Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry to answer a charge of causing death by dangerous driving. Nola Hohenkirk (no address given) pleaded not guilty to the charge, which stated that on July 17, she drove motor car HB 9580 in a manner dangerous to the public and caused the death of Eustace Rodrigues.
Police Sergeant Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, said that on the day in question, the defendant was driving motor car HB 9580 when she collided with Rodrigues who was on a pedal cycle. He said Rodrigues was taken to the hospital and he died the following day.
Harvey had no objection to bail, but requested a substantial amount.
Bail was granted in the sum of $200,000 on condition that the defendant lodge her passport. The matter will be called again on October 10.
