One remanded, other robbery accused on $100,000 bail

TWO men accused of robbery shared different fates yesterday when they appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry. One of them, Peter Mc Kenzie (no address given) was remanded to prison on a charge that said, on September 8, being armed with a gun, he robbed Ruby Neblett of one gold ring valued $35,000 and $6,000.
Police Sergeant Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, said the woman was on a donkey cart when the defendant and another person approached her and demanded her belongings at gunpoint.
The prosecutor said a report was made and the virtual complainant gave the police a description of the robbers and while Mc Kenzie was arrested, the other man, Desmond McPherson, escaped.
The magistrate issued a warrant for the latter and Harvey successfully objected to bail for Mc Kenzie, who had other cases pending when he, allegedly, committed the crime.
His case was transferred to another court for September 19.
The other accused, 22-year-old Kevin Peters (no address given either) is alleged to have used an offensive weapon, a pair of scissors, on September 12, to rob Daniel Harris of a cell phone valued $20,000.
Peters, too, pleaded not guilty and Harvey said the defendant and the victim were in the same mini-bus and, after Harris disembarked, Peters walked behind him, placed the scissors to the side of Harris and demanded the phone.
The prosecutor said a report was made and, based on the description given, the defendant was arrested and placed on an identification parade where he was fingered.
He was put on $100,000 bail, to return for trial on October 24.
