THE Guyana National Cycling Team departed Guyana for Jamaica yesterday to participate in the Annual Caribbean Cycling Championships. The team is possibly Guyana’s strongest and is being spearheaded by the likes of Warren ‘40’ McKay, Alonzo Greaves and Geron Williams who recently came back from a training stint in the USA. Captain of the team is Robin Persaud while coaching duties will be performed by Wayne De Abreu.
Both the coach and the captain expressed confidence in the team and said although the competition will be of an extremely high standard, they expect the Guyana team to hold their own and give a good account of themselves.
On the distaff side, the Guyana colours will be worn by the National Road Champs for the past two years, Hazina Barrett and Naomi Singh. This is Hazina Barrett’s first overseas tour and she said she is looking forward to it as the exposure will do her good as she expects to perform creditably.
The full Guyana Team is as follows: Robin Persaud (captain), Warren ‘40’ McKay, Alonzo Greaves, Geron Williams, Enzo Matthews, Hazina Barrett and Naomi Singh.
