Champion of Champions bowls off on Saturday

THE EIGHTH Annual Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTYSC)-organised, Guyana Beverages Company-sponsored Busta Champion of Champions tournament bowls off on Saturday at four venues across the Ancient County of Berbice. At the Area ‘H’ ground, the home team and defending champions Rose Hall Town Gizmos and Gadgets would be led by Assad Fudadin, along with Royston Crandon, Khemraj Mahadeo, Delbert Hicks, Renwick Batson, Rajiv Ivan and Shawn Pereira in their encounter against Skeldon Community Centre.
The visitors would depend heavily on national wicketkeeper Anthony Bramble, Mark Lionel, Parmanand Narine and Junior Blair to perform, giving themselves an outside chance to upstage the defending champions.
Young Warriors would be at home at the Cumberland ground against Edinburgh and will look to the likes of national Under-19 player Linden Austin, brothers Richard and Kevin Ramdeen, Farouk Hussain and Wahied Edwards as their main players. Edinburgh, on the other hand, would depend on Raid Ally, Denny David, Vishal Mohabir, Shafiq Khan and Derick Cadogan.
The Port Mourant Karibee Rice team would be at home where they would play Memorex Bermine at the Port Mourant ground and this match is expected to be a close and thrilling one with both teams equally balanced on paper.
Port Mourant would be spearheaded by Moshin Perkhan, Andre Percival, Robert Moore, Troy McKenzie, Devendra Thakurdeen and Rajendra Bolo. A youthful Memorex Bermine Team would be led by Devon Clements, Romario De Jonge, Stephen Latcha, Eugene La Fleur and Joemal La Fleur.
The final match of the first round would be played between Blairmont Community Centre and Police, at the Blairmont Community Centre ground.
Both teams are considered underdogs but both of them would be looking for a much better performance. Blairmont’s efforts will centre on Parmanand Ramdhan, Altaf Khan, Shameer Baksh and Baldeo Budhram while Michael Newland, Albert Sinclair, Winston Rose and Don Farley will lead Police’s charge.
All matches start at 09:30hrs and the organisers have provided the teams with coloured T-shirts, cricket balls and Busta drinks for snacks.
