Bee Hive rape case begins before Justice Patterson

TYRONNE Mortley of Bee Hive, Public Road East Coast Demerara appeared before Justice Winston Patterson and a mixed jury on Monday to face trial for having carnal knowledge with a 14-year old girl in 2006. He has pleaded not guilty and is being represented by Mr. Compton Richardson.
Leading prosecutor Teshana James-Lake told the jury that the husband of the victim’s mother were friends and used to visit that home where he became a family friend.
According to the prosecutor, the state would call witnesses to show that the accused took advantage of this close relationship to befriend the girl and raped her on two occasions.
Testifying yesterday the mother said that she never knew that her daughter had a boy friend until she had been taken to the doctor after complaining for abdominal pains when it was discovered that she was pregnant. The pregnancy was aborted.
In answer to cross-examination, the mother told defence counsel Mr. Compton Richardson that she had no knowledge about the abortion.
Prosecutors in the case are Ms. Teshana James-Lake in association with Ms. Judith Gildharie-Mursalin.
