21- yr-old UG student gunned down at Kingston Seawall

A 21-year-old University of Guyana student was reportedly gunned down sometime before 02:00hrs yesterday, in the vicinity of the Texaco Gas Station, Bel Air, Georgetown.
Uyiu Anthony Ting-a-kue, of 75 Robb Street, Lacytown, reportedly died from gunshot wounds he received to the left leg and chest, in the region of the heart. Reports reaching this newspaper say the young man succumbed while receiving treatment at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
It is said that Uyiu was seen in the company of recent Miss Guyana Pageant contestant Rukayyha Boyer, his girlfriend, on the Kingston Seawall before the incident occurred.
When this newspaper visited the residence of the deceased, his father, George Ting-a-kee, was sobbing uncontrollably as he attempted to relate what he knew about the incident. The grief stricken father said that he last saw his son around 20:00hrs on Thursday night when he arrived home. The father said that, Uyiu shortly after he arrived home, indicated that he was going out for a while, and would be back soon.
Mr. Ting-a-kee said when his son left, he sat down to watch television. Around 23: 13 hrs, he rang his son’s cellular phone, enquiring what time he would be returning home, to which the lad responded “In a short while”. He explained that he soon after retired to bed, and must have fallen asleep.
The man noted that sometime before 02:00 hrs he was awakened by his nephew, Eon Kirpatrick, who lives on the ground floor of their two storeyed home, who told him to get dress since they had to go to the hospital. He was accompanied to the Georgetown Public Hospital by his nephew and niece, Marjorie Kirpatrick, who related the shocking news that his son was shot and had died.
While he was too overcome with grief to relate what he saw on arrival at the hospital, he however explained that he later visited the Sparendamm Police Station, with the hope of obtaining information about  his son’s death. On arriving at the police station, he said he spoke with a male officer there, who did not give him any proper explanation as to how his son died.
He noted that the officer however took him to the scene of the crime, and he was quite surprised that there was not really any blood in the area.
Mr. Ting-a-kee said that police have since picked up his son’s girlfriend, Ms Boyer, for questioning as they conduct their investigations.
He described his son as easy going, very respectful, and polite. He stated that he had no idea who would want to hurt his son, since he was never at loggerheads with anyone.
The deceased was a second year student at the University of Guyana, where he was studying Business Administration. When contact was made with the Sparendaam Police Station yesterday, a male officer there said he was not at liberty to discuss the case.
