ADRIAN David and Candace Haniff (no addresses given) shared different fates yesterday, when they faced separate charges for drug offences, before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton. David was remanded to prison on a charge, to which he pleaded not guilty, of trafficking in 295 grammes of cannabis (marijuana) on August 9, at Konawaruk Junction, in Potaro.
Defence Counsel Adrian Thompson made an application for bail, on the ground that the defendant is ill and needs medical attention, but Police Corporal Venetta Pindar, prosecuting, objected, noting that the grant is only for special reasons, in terms of the offence and not the offender.
The case was transferred to Mahdia Court, also in the Potaro, for October 19.
Haniff, 28, was charged with having been found with five grammes of the same narcotic at Providence Stadium, East Bank Demerara, on August 12.
Mr. Thompson, who represented Haniff, as well, was successful in his application for her pre-trial liberty.
No facts were stated but she was granted $20,000 bail until October 24.
