One killed, several others injured in road accident

AKEEM Muhammad Moffatt, 29, of Lot 451 West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, is the latest road fatality.
He was killed when the motor car in which he was travelling, PLL 4408, collided with another vehicle at Lamaha and David Streets, Kitty, also in the city, yesterday morning.
The Police Traffic Department said Moffatt’s death now makes it 75 road fatalities, including eight children, from 69 accidents, as compared with 66, six children among them, for the corresponding period last year, from 65 accidents. .
Moffatt’s mother, Jean Chisholm told the Guyana Chronicle her self-employed son, father of two sons, was on his way home when tragedy struck.
Police said it happened about 01:00 hrs when motor car, PMM 3023, which was proceeding along Lamaha Street, Kitty, was involved in the collision with another car, PLL 4430.
The report said Moffatt suffered injuries and, later, succumbed at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH).                                                                      
Police said three other persons were also injured in that accident.
The driver of PLL 4408, Orwin McQuely said he was driving in a northerly direction along Lamaha Street when the other driver, heading in an easterly direction on David Street, slammed into his vehicle.
Apart from McQuely, two other passengers in that car, Rayon Spencer and Quacy Jamad were injured and were treated and sent away.
It was reported that the driver of PMM 3023, registered to the Bauxite Company of Guyana Corporation, and his wife suffered no injuries.
At the scene yesterday, broken glass was scattered about and a utility pole was split into two parts.
Both drivers are in Police custody assisting with investigations and the motor cars are lodged at Kitty Police Station.
