APNU leaders visit city markets ahead of big rally

A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) Presidential Candidate, Brig. (ret’d) David Granger and APNU official, Dr. Rupert Roopnaraine, accompanied by Executive Members of the Guyana Youth and Student Movement (GYSM), visited the Bourda and Stabroek Markets yesterday.

A statement from APNU said Granger and Roopnarine distributed fliers and encouraged vendors and shoppers alike to attend the political rally planned for the Square of the Revolution tomorrow.
The party said both leaders were well received by vendors and shoppers who endorsed APNU. “Some vendors used that opportunity to register their complaints about several issues including the high cost of living, low market standards and unsatisfactory vending conditions,” the party said.

Granger had met with some of the vendors on 19th July 2011 who had expressed concerns about the conditions of the markets.

Mr. Granger had emphasized then that vendors played a vital role in the economy and they should be accommodated in improved premises. APNU has already committed to rebuilding the markets and making them more safe and convenient for both shoppers and vendors when elected as Guyana’s next Government.

Mr. Granger stated, “when we get into Government we are going to provide markets that you can be proud of…we are going to rebuild our markets”.

APNU has invited all interested in national unity, and a good life to join its massive rally on the Square of the Revolution tarmac tomorrow. The public was asked to come out in their thousands to rally for change.
