-father buried too, but separately
PEOPLE from all across the Cinderella County and beyond turned out in their numbers yesterday to pay their respects to the grieving relatives of young Viya and Shiva Persaud, who died last Tuesday by drowning at the hands of their father. The atmosphere during the funeral service, which was held aback Adventure where the children lived with their parents, was filled with sadness as persons wept openly at the thought of the cruel fate that befell the youngsters.
The service, which was conducted according to  Hindu rites, saw in attendance many devotees from the various Mandirs across the Essequibo Coast and outside of Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam).
Officiating at the service, Pandit Sugrim said this tragic incident should be seen as a lesson for other married couples experiencing domestic problems, whom he urged to seek the necessary guidance and counselling needed to keep their relationship together and to better deal with situations that may arise.
Meanwhile, family members of the children’s father, Chunilall Persaud, held a separate funeral service at their grandfather’s home for the 25-year-old man who committed suicide by hanging himself after drowning the two children in a nearby pond.
The children’s mother burst into tears as the children’s remains were being removed from where the service was being held to be taken to the burial ground.
Both father and children were laid to rest at the Adventure burial ground.
The village of Adventure on the Essequibo Coast was thrown into a state of shock on the morning of July 14 when news broke that a man had killed his two young children before hanging himself on a tree.
Persaud’s lifeless body was discovered at around 05:30hrs by his father, Rampat Persaud, about half a mile from his home, whilst the bodies of his two-year-old daughter, Viya, and four-year-old son, Shiva, were discovered in a trench some distance from where he hanged himself.
Reports are that the man may have committed the act as a result of the overwhelming arguments between him and his wife.
